National Eisteddfod 2010

Local Food First Wrexham attended the National Eisteddfod in Ebbw Vale after discovering that the Eisteddfod will be hosted on Wrexham in 2011. The Eisteddfod is a great opportunity to promote the county, its producers and network with other organisations from across Wales.  Local Food First Wrexham had a stand in “Y Pantri” on Wednesday 4th August 2010.

The food hall area known as “Y Pantri” was organised and run by Dafydd Griffith from Mentr Mon. It consisted of 12 food stands, a demo kitchen area, café, deli and a daily opportunity to promote a Welsh county. Wrexham was the feature county on the Wednesday, with Conwy, Gwynedd and Angelsey featuring on subsequent days.

Local Food First took a selection of Wrexham produce down to the Eisteddfod from 11 Wrexham producers, they were:

• Seren Foods, Bangor on Dee
• Nant Ucha Eggs, Garth
• Erlas Cetre, Wrexham
• Veggie Fayre, Wrexham
• Aballu Truffles, Llay
• BLUE, Bettisfield
• Just Tea and Coffee, Wrexham
• Dee Valley Rapeseed Oil, Johnstown
• Jolly Brewer, Wrexham
• Home Farm, Overton
• Chirk Trout Farm, Chirk

Sioned Mair, a well known Welsh chef, gave live demonstrations throughout the day in the medium of Welsh on how to cook Wrexham dishes, she also promoted the products and gave details on where they could be bought from. The demo kitchen cooked up 4 dishes based on Wrexham produce, they were:

• Chirk hot smoked salmon with homemade Nant Ucha mayonnaise
• Local lamb with a Blue savoury sauce and fresh Wrexham blueberries
• Hot smoked salmon pate served with pitta bread drizzled in Dee Valley rapeseed oil
• Wrexham meatballs with linguni

The dishes were sampled and enjoyed by members of the audience.
