Mushrooms Arrive in Wrexham……..

Tuesday, June 15, 2010 AT 04:06 PM

Mushrooms are on the menu for the next six weeks at the Erlas Victorian Walled Garden, the garden project has successfully restored an orginal Victorian mushroom house. This week the mushrooms have begun to flush and it is predicted that the slate beds will produce up to 600lbs of mushrooms over forthcoming weeks.

Local Food First Wrexham has been working with the garden project to establish outlets for the mushrooms over forthcoming weeks, so far Wrexham and Shropshire Railway have agreed to take eight crates a week to serve up to hungry commuters.  If you are interested in buying some of these locally produced mushrooms please contact the Erlas project directly.

The Erlas Walled Garden provides meaningful work opportunities for adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs. The garden delivers specialised training and support for a group of up to 40 adults, aiming to promote and protect the health of people with disabilities by providing daytime activity, education and work experience.

For further information contact Annelise Brilli on 07563 539966 or info@erlas.org

Wrexham Distribution Network…..be part of it!

Friday, June 11, 2010 AT 12:06 PM

It has been suggested by some of the local producers that there may be an opportunity for some of you to come together to look at ways in which a wider distribution network could be established so that you are able to get your products into delicatessens beyond the North Wales/Wrexham boundaries. The idea has been suggested by Ian Rowley from Dee Valley Rapeseed Oil and Gerry Moreton from Seren Foods who will lead on this with Local Food First Wrexham facilitating as appropriate.

If you are interested in exploring how this can be set up and also in being involved, please conact: caroline.dawson@wrexham.gov.uk
